THERMOWOOD
What is Thermowood?
Thermally modified wood (also called thermowood) is the end product of a process used to treat solid wood. This process is controlled by the physical parameters of temperature and steam. An important step in this process is drying the wood to 0% moisture content and then raising the temperature and heat treating it up to 215°C (419°F). Thermowood offers advantages over untreated wood in terms of dimensional stability, surface hardness, rot resistance and less cracking.

Advantages and Characteristics of Thermowood
  • Certified service life of up to 30 years when installed horizontally and fully exposed to the elements.
  • 100% chemical free and recyclable.
  • Reduced surface temperature when exposed to strong sunlight.
  • Barefoot friendly.
  • No resin pockets.
  • Low tendency to warp, twist or buckle....
  • Reduced thermal conductivity (higher insulation value in facade construction).
  • Reduced probability and weaker occurrence of stress cracks.
  • Washouts are not visible.
  •  Low risk of infection in case of chipping or spalling. Best energy balance between wood, composite and stone alternatives for decking boards.
